Short the Grail

An opportunity for card collectors to bet against the rising values of collectibles by short selling the featured item. When confidence falters, position yourself to profit from the downside.

How it works

Short selling on Own The Grail is enabled by genuine supply imbalances. Here's the process.

  1. 1

    Imbalance creates opportunity

When long-side demand exceeds available supply, a short window opens. For example, if only 100 shares are available but confirmed investments total 200 shares, that surplus demand creates an opportunity for 100 shares of short interest.

  2. 2

Confirm your short & post collateral

Investors who believe the collectible's value will decline can confirm their interest in shorting the featured item. To open the position, you must post initial collateral — for example, 50% of the item's valuation — to secure the trade.

  3. 3

    Monitor performance & adjust collateral

Track the item's valuation as it moves. When the valuation falls you may receive some of your collateral back. However, if valuations rise, you may be called for additional collateral to keep your position secured.

  4. 4

Realization event on the liquidity date

On the Liquidity Date the featured item is sold and a realization event occurs. For example, if you shorted an item with a confirmed valuation of 200 and posted 100 in collateral, and the item was sold and shares were realized at 100, you receive a final payout of 200 — the 100 you posted as collateral plus the 100 you realized from the decrease in valuation.

  5. 5

    Redeem or reinvest

Redeem your cash payout, or reinvest in a new item and keep your portfolio growing.
